Infogroup Pushing into Self-Service

It has always been challenging to find where to input and update business listings on Acxiom and InfoUSA (now Infogroup). However Infogroup is trying to change that with a self-service portal “Express Update.”

That link (“update my listing”) leads to this relatively new site:

Businesses must register and then can claim, correct/update or enhance listings. Infogroup will independently verify the information to prevent error and mischief. Uploading or correcting basic business listings information (NAP) is free but enhanced information costs the business $59 per year.

The categories of enhanced data are growing and will include all content types in the near future, including images and video.

Infogroup will continue to rely on partners and resellers but this site is part of a move to embrace self-service and make it more accessible to SMBs. The Express Update site says Infogroup is the “primary data provider” to the top search engines (G,Y,B, AOL), which represent 97% of all search queries.

One of Infogroup’s core businesses is data licensing. And the company asserts that it has the highest quality database among the three major competitors. However over time there’s a danger that a free or crowd-sourced local listings database emerges. That certainly wouldn’t kill Infogroup’s business but it might put pressure on pricing to some degree.

    This is great news Greg,

On digging around I discovered there’s even bulk-feed capabilities within the new tool. We’ve had bulk-feed relationships with Localeze and UBL for a while but have had to manually enter listings to InfoUSA.
