Apple Buys Its ‘Google Earth’

Last year Apple acquired Google Maps competitor Placebase. Its team became the core of an Apple “geo team.” Now Apple has acquired another mapping company, Quebec-based Poly 9. The company produces a 3D Google Earth-like mapping product that doesn’t require a software download or plug-in:

With this acquisition it seems inevitable that Apple will offer a competitor to Google Maps on iOS devices or replace them entirely with its own products.
