Former Tellme CEO Mike McCue has launched Flipboard a personal-social magazine that combines a menu of customized content feeds and social tools with beautiful design and layout:
There’s considerable buzz and discussion of the new iPad app on Techmeme. And the company has just received $10 million in funding.
The combination of Facebook and Twitter social content (beautifully formatted) with content from blogs and traditional media sources, together with sophisticated design (see also Apollo News) makes Flipboard and sites like it to come a new threat to traditional publishers who see the iPad and tablets as an important new distribution channel.
It puts huge pressure on them to bring their content to the new medium with great (not just good) design and user experiences. Content by itself is not enough.
