Groupon’s Sales Force Now 4,850

One of the additional interesting pieces of information in the Groupon S-1 filing is data about the growth of its sales force. The company now has 4,850 reps globally, only 990 of which are in North America (3,860 are international).

By contrast, LivingSocial has fewer than half that number of sales reps.

In the amended S-1 Groupon also discussed the productivity of sales reps:

[In Q1] the average number of merchants featured per sales representative per month was six and the average revenue per sales representative per month was $87,000. In the second quarter of 2011, the average number of merchants featured per sales representative per month was 16 and the average revenue per sales representative per month was $138,000 . . .

So: $87K per rep in Q1 growing to $138K per rep in Q2. Plus the number of monthly deals per rep grew from 6 to 16.

Groupon said that its North American reps are based in Chicago while the international reps are based out of 74 different country offices. Talk about an HR nightmare.

Doug I have no relationship to Groupon. It’s better if you try to reach them directly.
